GLAAD has launched the new "Coming Out for Equality" public service announcement campaign helmed by Brett Ratner in partnership with Comcast and NBCUniversal. The spots feature a diverse group of straight celebrities and athletes including Jackie Chan, Tamala Jones, Giada De Laurentiis, DeRay Davis, Hudson Taylor, Jaime King, Jason Alexander, Kristen Johnston, Sarah Shahi and Pauley Perrette "coming out of the closet" as supporters of equality and calling for other Americans to speak out. GLAAD is working with Ally Robledo after she was served with trespassing charges on April 8th as she was leaving Rosauer's grocery store in Lewiston, Idaho. GLAAD is working with the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF) to bring attention and justice to the discrimination that Ally experienced. Read more.
GLAAD worked with Nicholas Coppola to launch a Change.org petition, asking Cardinal Timothy Dolan to break bread with him and his husband and hear about the lives and realities of LGBT Catholics. Already the petition has gathered over 18,000 signatures. Read more.
GLAAD is supporting Carla Hale after the physical education teacher was fired from her job at a Catholic school for listing her partner in her mother's obituary. Like Nicholas Coppola, Carla is a dedicated person, who was persecuted for being true to her family. Read more.
GLAAD promoted Dannika Nash's blog post, "An Open Letter to the Church from My Generation," which went viral, challenged the Christian church on LGBT inclusion, and got her fired from her summer camp job. Read more.
GLAAD's Entertainment Media Team interviewed Paul Kutterberg, who last week released Kevin, a novel about Archie Comics' beloved gay character Kevin Keller. Kutterberg also talked about Life with Archie#16, a look at Kevin's future, featuring his wedding on the cover. The issue led to a Boycott by One Million Moms and became the second comic in Archie's history to sell out. Read more.
