Scouts for Equality (SFE) is launching a series of videos discussing why it is so crucial for the Boy Scouts to work towards a full inclusion policy and drop their anti-gay ban. Their first video features Eagle Scout Zach Wahls discussing his experiences as a scout with two moms. Jennifer Tyrrell, together with GLAAD and Scouts For Equality, is launching a new petition to urge the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to completely lift its anti-gay ban on both youth members and adult employees and volunteers. Wahls, author of “My Two Moms: Lessons of Love, Strength and What Makes a Family,” appeared at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 20, 2013 in Los Angeles to present the faces of GLAAD.
GLAAD first started calls for the Boy Scouts of America to end its ban on gay scouts and scout leaders in April 2012 after Jennifer Tyrrell, a mom and den leader from Ohio was removed from her 7-year-old’s Cub Scout Pack for being gay. Tyrrell’s Change.org petition has attracted more than 343,000 signatures in support of ending the Boy Scouts’ ban on gay Scouts and leaders.
