Each week The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) The GLAAD Media Award-nominated film Any Day Now, starring Alan Cumming and Garret Dillahunt, is now available on DVD. The film is inspired by a true story from the late 1970s and follows a gay couple battling a biased legal system to adopt Marco, a teenager with Down Syndrome who was neglected by his mother. 2) White Frog, starring Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey and Glee's Harry Shum, Jr., will be available on digital download through Wolfe Video on June 4, over a month before the DVD hits the shelves on July 16. The film will be released in select theaters on May 10 and tells the story of Nick (Twilight's Booboo Stewart), a high school student with Asperger's Syndrome, and his relationship with his brother, Chaz (Shum), who is revealed to be gay in the film. 3) Noah St. John, the 15-year-old who won NPR's Snap Judgment "Performance of the Year" for a stunning story about his two mothers which quickly went viral, has been cast on ABC Family's upcoming drama The Fosters. St. John will play Garrett, a character loosely based on himself, who is "the hipster-friendly son of two lesbian moms and longtime family friend of the Fosters." 4) Out singer and actor Cheyenne Jackson will play Tony in the San Francisco Symphony's West Side Story at Davies Symphony Hall June 27 through July 2. PBS will be recording the concert and a cast album is scheduled to be released later in 2013. 5) Perez Hilton's newest compilation album Pop Up! #2, promoting indie artists and emerging talent, will hit stores on May 14, but he took time out to go over his choices for all 15 tracks with The Hollywood Reporter this week. Among the tracks featured is out twin rockers Tegan and Sara with "Closer" off their latest album, Heartthrob.
6) Ashanti's new video for her single "Never Should Have" follows the stories of three couples dealing with heartbreak, one of which is an interracial gay couple. She is working on her fifth studio album when not filming the LGBT-inclusive drama Army Wives. Check out the music video for "Never Should Have" below.
7) The Pet Shop Boys, one of the world’s best-selling electronic dance music artists, released a video for their new single “Axis.” The track is from their upcoming album Electric which is set to hit stores on July 15. Check out the video for "Axis" below.
8) Boomtrain, a video platform dedicated to helping audiences find and enjoy high quality web series, has created a new watchlist to help bring attention to LGBT web series. Check out the Universal Love: LGBT Web Series Blazing Trails watchlist here, which includes series such as Husbands, The Outs, Anyone But Me, Venice The Series and more.
9) You'll soon be able to get in on the RuPaul's Drag Race fun with the upcoming mobile app game "RuPaul's Drag Race: Dragopolis." In "Dragopolis", players "help their character reclaim the title as Queen of Dragopolis by defeating the evil drag queen Apocalypstyk." Players can customize their character, and have the option to unlock popular Drag Race contestants including Manila Luzon, Pandora Boxx and Yara Sofia. The game will hit the iPhone app store on May 6 as Drag Race crowns the newest Drag Superstar; an Android version of the game is set to be released later this year. Watch the trailer below.
