A novel by GLAAD's Monica Trasandes was recently included in the Advocate's "20 Must-Read Books We Missed Last Year." The Advocate called her book, "Broken Like This," a "tender and languid look at love, loneliness, and transformation. Beautifully done."

Trasandes, originally from Uruguay, is GLAAD's Director of Spanish-language Media and an Emerson grad who has published several short stories and written plays that were produced in Los Angeles.

The novel tells the story of a woman who's been in a car accident in Ibiza, Spain and whose two loves, one male, one female, fly to her bedside.  The novel was called "a transcendent debut" by Publisher's Weekly and well-reviewed in O Magazine,Oprah.com and Out Magazine.

"I really wanted to create a love story between two women that was engaging, sexy and complicated and for their story to stay with readers," Trasandes has said. “My work at GLAAD is all about getting visibility for LGBT people. I know that our visibility as LGBT people and our willingness to stand up for ourselves is what has changed the culture, and is still changing it, so I'm thrilled with the attention the book has gotten and hope it keeps reaching more people.”
