Nominations for the 3rd Annual Critics' Choice Television Awards were announced this morning and several out actors, characters and LGBT-inclusive series were honored. The award recipients will be announced on June 10 at a ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel hosted by Retta (Parks and Recreation).
The out performers nominated include Jim Parsons, who was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on The Big Bang Theory. Zachary Quinto scored a nod for Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or Mini-series for his portrayal of twisted psychiatrist Dr. Thredson on American Horror Story: Asylum, while his out cast mate Sarah Paulson also picked up a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Mini-series for her role as lesbian reporter Lana Winters. Drag performer RuPaul netted a nomination for Best Reality Host for RuPaul's Drag Race.
Adam Pally is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of gay slacker Max Blum on Happy Endings. Michael Cudlitz is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of gay LAPD officer John Cooper on Southland. In the Movie or Mini-series category, Sebastian Stan's work as TJ Hammond, the first out child in the White House, on Political Animals earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, while Matt Damon and Michael Douglas both netted Best Actor nominations for their portrayals of couple Scott Thorson and Liberace respectively in the upcoming HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra.
The LGBT-inclusive series Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones and The Good Wife all scored nominations for Best Drama Series, while Political Animals, Behind the Candelabra and American Horror Story: Asylum picked up nominations for Best Movie or Mini-series. LGBT-inclusive series nominated for Best Reality Series include Push Girls and Small Town Security, while Chopped, Survivor and The Voice picked up nods for Best Reality Series – Competition. The Ellen DeGeneres Show scored a nomination for Best Talk Show, and Archer and The Simpsons picked up nods for Best Animated Series.
