Pioneering LGBT blog Pam's House Blend to shut down after 9 years

LGBT advocate and writer Pam Spaulding announced on her website this weekend that after nine years online, she will soon serve her last cup of Pam's House Blend.

A trailblazer in the LGBT blogosphere, Pam's House Blend gave voice to members of the LGBT community who had been largely shut out of the national discussion, including Pam herself.

The Blend sat in a unique place in all of this — I brought the perspective of a black lesbian living in the South to the dialogue — broadcasting a voice certainly not represented in the power structure of the LGBT movement. It was the first major blog to feature a transgender contributor, and it was important to me to bring talent to the blog from under-represented regions and voices.

Indeed, Pam writes that several of those voices, including Laurel Ramseyer, Alvin McEwen and Autumn Sandeen, will be starting their own blog soon. She also writes that the decision to close the cafe doors was based largely on the fact that she has been dealing with chronic pain conditions including fibromylagia, and imore recently, aggressive rheumatoid arthritis.

Pam's House Blend was one of the first five blogs selected for our inaugural list of nominees for the Outstanding Blog GLAAD Media Award.

We wish Pam all the best, and know that she will continue to be a powerful voice for LGBT equality.
