Nominations were announced yesterday for the 34th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, and Vito, the GLAAD Media Award-nominated documentary about the life of GLAAD co-founder Vito Russo, picked up two nominations including Outstanding Historical Programming – Long Form. The news came on what would have been Vito's 67th birthday. Check out the Vito trailer below:

We Were Here, an Independent Lens special on PBS about the early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in San Francisco, is nominated alongside Vito in Outstanding Historical Programming – Long Form. HBO's LGBT-inclusive documentaries The Tsunami and The Cherry Blossom and Saving Face scored nods in Best Documentary. The Chely Wright documentary Wish Me Away, nominated for a GLAAD Media Award, is nominated in Outstanding Informational Programming – Long Form.

The Dateline NBC piece Josie's Story about 11-year-old trans girl Josie Romero picked up a nomination in Outstanding Feature Story in a News Magazine. Anderson Cooper's AC360 is nominated in Outstanding News Discussion and Analysis, he also anchored three other nominated news segments. The Rachel Maddow Show scored a nomination in the same category.
GLAAD congratulates all the nominees and thanks The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for recognizing LGBT-inclusive documentaries and news programming. The 34th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards will be held in New York City on Tuesday, October 1.
