The upcoming 11th season of CBS' Two and a Half Men will see Amber Tamblyn appearing in a recurring role as Jenny, the long-lost daughter of the now deceased Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen). Series creator Chuck Lorre has confirmed to E! that Jenny is bisexual, saying, "The idea that she loves women seems to be something that just felt right." Tamblyn is set to appear in at least five episodes of the series, with the role possibly expanding at a later date. Two and a Half Men's new season premieres September 26 on CBS.
CBS has struggled to include LGBT characters on its scripted shows in recent years, and has routinely been ranked last among the broadcast networks in GLAAD's annual Network Responsibility Index. Last season the network introduced the sitcom Partners, which focused on the friendship between a gay man and a straight man, but unfortunately it was cancelled after a few months. This summer, CBS' new hit drama, Under the Dome, added a lesbian couple that was not present in Stephen King's novel. Two and a Half Men has, in fact, been one of the most consistent programs on the network to include LGBT content over the years. The show received a nomination at the 16th Annual GLAAD Media Awards for an episode about a transgender man, and more recently it's featured a storyline in which Charlie and Alan's mother Evelyn entered into a relationship with a woman.
We applaud CBS' steps toward making their network reflect the world around them - a world where 90% of Americans say they personally know someone who is gay, lesbian or bisexual. Two and a Half Men's new season premieres September 26 on CBS.
