The People’s Choice Awards, the first televised awards show of the year, aired last night on CBS and several out stars, characters, and LGBT-inclusive series won their categories as voted on by the fans.
Ellen DeGeneres took home the People's Choice Award for Favorite Daytime TV Host, making it her third year in a row winning the category. Actor, singer, and author Chris Colfer won Favorite Comedic TV Actor, which is his second year in a row taking home the honor. Glee's out character Santana Lopez and Rachel Berry (Naya Rivera and Lea Michele, respectively) netted a win for Favorite TV Gal Pals.
The Netflix hit Orange is the New Black picked up the award for Favorite Streaming Series. CBS' The Good Wife took home Favorite Network TV Drama and ABC's Super Fun Night won the award in Favorite New TV Comedy. The Voice, which has consistently featured out singing contestants, picked up the People's Choice award in Favorite Competition TV Show. The Walking Dead recently became an inclusive series when it recently introduced two lesbian characters, one of whom is set to return with the series in February, and the show took home Favorite Cable TV Drama. Finally in music, "Same Love" singers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis picked up the award for Favorite Hip-Hop Artist.
