Nominees for the 86th Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning and included nominations for the LGBT-inclusive films Dallas Buyers Club and Philomena. The Oscars, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will air live on ABC on March 2.
Focus Features' Dallas Buyers Club picked up six total nominations, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Jared Leto's portrayal of Rayon; a transwoman living with AIDS in 1980s Texas. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Motion Picture of the Year.
Philomena, from The Weinstein Company, took home four nominations. Judi Dench is nominated in Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role and the film also picked up nominations in Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will produce the 86th Annual Academy Awards, which will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres from Los Angeles and air live on ABCSunday, March 2.
