CeCe McDonald and GLAAD's Senior Media Strategist Tiq Milan met in Minnesota shortly after CeCe was released from prison last week. Tiq helped CeCe as she prepared to share her story with MSNBC's Melissa Harris Perry. The segment marked the first time CeCe spoke publicly since regaining her freedom from a men's prison facility. Advocates Laverne Cox, Katie Burgess, and Rea Carey accompanied CeCe for support. Watch the interview and read more here.
Christina Kahrl, a member of GLAAD's board of directors and a sports writer for ESPN.com, wrote "What Grantland Got Wrong" in response to a problematic article about a trans woman, Essay Anne Vanderbilt or "Dr. V," published through ESPN.com's venture, Grantland. Kahrl's piece provides a thorough exploration of how Dr. V's story was mishandled and how journalists can write with integrity about the trans community. Additionally, GLAAD spoke with ESPN to address the issues with the initial article. Read more here.
Juan Pablo Galavis, star of ABC's The Bachelor, made contact with GLAAD to clarify comments he made about the LGBT and 
Latino communities. Speaking with Monica Trasandes, GLAAD's Director of Spanish-Language and Latino Media, Juan Pablo apologized for what he said previously and expressed support for gay parents, their families, and gay and lesbian youth. Monica, who appeared on Good Morning America to discuss the topic, and GLAAD Spokesperson Wilson Cruz met with Juan Pablo so he could learn about their experiences as LGBT Latinos. Read more here.
