Today, GLAAD announced the nominees for its 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Part of the selection criteria for the GLAAD Media Awards is "fair, accurate and inclusive representations," meaning nominees must include diverse stories about multi-dimensional LGBT representations rather than focus on broad stereotypes. Media representations of the bisexual community are infrequent and often sensationalized or inaccurate, but this year saw several nomination-worthy and bi-inclusive media projects.

Among the journalism nominees, a newspaper article by the Los Angeles Times titled "Why Bisexuals Stay in the Closet" tackles head-on some of the stereotypes and preconceived notions about the bisexual community, silencing the B in the LGBT community. Another strong nominee this year was a discussion on HuffPost Live about the first White House forum around bisexuality, which is nominated in the Outstanding Digital Journalism – Multimedia category. A series by Advocate.com is nominated in the Outstanding Digital Journalism Article category and features the diversity of LGBT seniors, including portraits of bisexual writer Alice Walker and music producer Clive Davis among others.

In the entertainment media categories, two bi-identified music artist are nominated, Lady Gaga and Alison Goldfrapp from the band Goldfrapp. In the Outstanding Comedy Series category, two series include bisexual characters, the Netflix hit series Orange is the New Black and Fox's teenage comedy Glee. The Outstanding Drama Series category includes Grey's Anatomy, featuring Latina doctor and mom Callie Torres.

The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD's work to amplify stories from the LGBT community and issues that build support for equality.

The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies will be held in Los Angeles on April 12, 2014 at The Beverly Hilton and in New York on May 3, 2014 at the Waldorf Astoria New York. Find out how you can buy tickets or host a table here.
