Today Days of Our Lives announced the engagement of Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis in an exclusive story by The Advocate. The couple will become engaged in tomorrow's Valentine's Day episode. Sonny was introduced to viewers in 2011 and helped Will during his long and tumultuous coming out to himself and his family. The couple has been dating for over a year and the soap has not shied away from showing intimate moments between the two of them. Their storyline has garnered Days of Our Lives several Daytime Emmys and two GLAAD Media Awards.
"When I found out they were finally getting engaged, I was thrilled. Will and Sonny have been a power couple for two years now, and in the town of Salem, people don’t usually stay together that long, so they’re doing something right. It’s definitely time," said Freddie Smith who plays Sonny.
His counterpart, Guy Wilson, who took over the role of Will earlier this year added, "I truly feel blessed to be able to come onto this show and immediately have the opportunity to take part in something that is so important, not just in the context of the show, but on a wider scale. I’m thankful we’re creating something that resonates with people and makes a positive impact."
