Last week, CeCe McDonald visited New York City for the first time, and spoke with several media outlets and organizations about her story and work as an activist. CeCe is a trans woman of color who was incarcerated in Minnesota after being physically attacked by a group of people yelling homophobic, transphobic, and racist slurs in June of 2011. After one of her attackers was stabbed and died, CeCe was arrested and sentenced to 41 months in prison. With the support of friends and advocates, CeCe spoke out throughout her time in prison about the injustice that she and so many trans people and people of color face under the law.
CeCe is the subject of the forthcoming documentary, FREE CeCe, being produced by trans actress and activist Laverne Cox, and advocate and filmmaker Jac Gares. On Wednesday, February 19, CeCe appeared on Democracy Now! with Laverne Cox and Alisha Williams of the Sylvia Rivera Law Project. The discussion focused on CeCe's experience, and on the high levels of violence faced by black trans women. Watch the full clip below.
After her Democracy Now appearance, CeCe and activist Rai'vyn Cross visited GLAAD's offices to meet the staff and GLAAD's President Sarah Kate.
Later on Wednesday, CeCe spoke with Michelangelo Signorile on Sirius XM. During her interview, CeCe discussed more details of the attack she faced and the arrest that followed. At the end of the day, CeCe joined activists Reina Gossett and Dean Spade to film a follow-up conversation to the No One Is Disposable online event, hosted by Barnard College. On Thursday, CeCe had an interview with Paul Schindler for the Gay City News. The interview will run in an upcoming issue of Gay City News. Afterwards, CeCe went to the Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI) to share her story and discuss her activism work with the Peer Education Program there. 
On Friday, CeCe went to the Ali Forney Center to speak on the first panel of a series called Pioneers and Legends, presented to LGBT youth. In addition to CeCe, the panel included artists Amos Mac and Juliana Huxtable.
