Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1) For one night only, Goldfrapp's film event Tales of Us will be in theaters. On March 4 at 7:30 p.m. local time, a thirty-minute film that tells five of the stories featured on the album will be followed by a broadcast of Goldfrapp performing live from Air Studios in London. Encore performances will be March 25 and 27. Goldfrapp is an electronic music duo that consists of out performer Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory. The band is nominated this year for a GLAAD Media Award in the Outstanding Music Artist category.
2)Beacon Hill, a new web series from Emmy Award winner Crystal Chappell and Linda and Jessica Hill, premieres on March 5. Beacon Hill centers around Sara, the rebellious granddaughter of a senior U.S. Senator, who returns home to Boston when her grandfather suffers a stroke. When Sara and her State Representative ex-girlfriend reconnect, their political and family situations make it difficult to put the past behind them.
3) How I Met Your Dad, Teen Wolf, and Marry Me all made casting announcements about gay characters this week. Teen Wolf is in the midst of casting Mason, an out-and-proud athlete. The new sitcom Marry Me just cast Tim Meadows as one of Casey Wilson's dads. And How I Met Your Dad cast newcomer Drew Tarver as Todd, the main character's best friend and college roommate who is now married to her brother. CBS has had a talent holding deal with Tarver for the last month after he took part in CBS' 9th Annual Diversity Showcase.
4) Comedian Cameron Esposito is teaming up with record label Kill Rock Stars to release her second stand-up comedy album. Esposito, an up-and-coming lesbian comedian, has already made her television debut and impressed Jay Leno with her comedy and love of denim. Kill Rock Stars was founded in 1991 and has released albums with such artists as Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, and Elliot Smith.
5) Ellen Burstyn has been cast in the NBC comedy pilot Old Soul, from writer and executive producer Amy Poehler. Burstyn will play "an earthy lesbian with a New Age bent who has recently survived cancer." Natasha Lyonne, Fred Willard, and Rita Moreno will also star.
6) Girl Gets Girl needs your help! The team who brought you the Spanish lesbian web series Girl Seeks Girl is back, and this time they want to make a feature film. Girls Gets Girl is a "hot and hilarious lesbian comedy that shows the different ways to understand love and family." Your contributions will enable them to make the movie, and reaching their stretch goals would let them film in both Miami and Madrid. You can learn more and donate here!
