The 86th Annual Academy Awards aired live tonight on ABC, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and produced by GLAAD Media Award recipients Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. DeGeneres previously hosted the 79th Annual ceremony in 2007.
Jared Leto took home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Rayon, a trans woman living with AIDS in 1980s Texas, in Focus Feature's Dallas Buyers Club. While accepting the award, Leto said "This is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle with AIDS. And to those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love, I stand here in front of the world with you and for you."
Matthew McConaughey won Best Actor for his role in the same film, which also won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
Other nominees at tonight's ceremony included the GLAAD Media Award-nominated film Philomena, and Facing Fear, a documentary short about a gay hate-crime victim who now works with one of his former attackers to inspire change.
