Arizona Senator Steve Gallardo said that recently, as he watched protesters come to the Capitol to ask for a veto of SB 1062 the bill that would have allowed discrimination against LGBTQ people he realized that it was time to talk openly about his own truth. Gallardo held a press conference and shared the news. The local Univision affiliate reported Gallardo wanted to send a message to all the members of the LGBT community who are having a hard time coming out openly. He also stated that "It is great to be able to say 'this is who I am'; this is a part of my life that I have never spoken about, but now I want to talk about it, and it feels good to do it."
Gallardo is now the third openly gay member of the Arizona legislature.
