Bayard Rustin, an openly gay African American man, worked as an advocate for human rights. He most famously advised Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and was the chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom where King made his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
