As the leading LGBT media advocacy organization, GLAAD recognizes individuals who through their work positively impact the LGBT movement. Along with recognizing national activists, GLAAD also acknowledges individuals who make an impact on a global scale. Jane Hill is certainly one of those individuals who positively impact the LGBT community. A British journalist and a presenter for BBC news is also an activist for equality.
Two years after coming out in 2009, Hill married her girlfriend, a camera operator in a civil partnership ceremony. In 2012, Hill spoke at Out and Equal's Global LGBT Workplace Summit in London and shared some of the best practices for building equality in the workplace for LGBT people and allies. Out and Equal is an organization which is committed to promoting equal opportunities for LGBT employers. Hill was joined by other dynamic speakers and panelists such as: John Amaechi, organizational consultant, executive coach and former NBA basketball star; Martina Navratilova, athlete, author, activist; Vladi Luxuria. former MP, Italy; Judy Dlugacz, CEO of Olivia Travel; and Anna Grodzka from the Polish Parliament.
In 2013, Hill attended Pride in London Gala Dinner which raised money for several community events such as the pride festival in the UK. Besides strongly supporting LGBT oriented events and organizations, Hill serves as a great example of visibility of LGBT characters in the media. Through her involvement she shows a great deal of dedication and passion for LGBT community in the United Kingdom.
In 2011, she put out a video for the British version of "It Gets Better" for Stonewall, the British LGBT organization, saying, "When I started in television, I couldn't really think of any female role models. I couldn't think of gay women who I knew on British television, but I'm please to say that today there are a few of us working across mainstream radio and TV."
