Tonight, LGBT faith leaders and activists will host Go Vote: A Memo to Black America.
GLAAD has worked with the leading individuals behind the NoWedge2012 campaign including Pastor Joseph Tolton, Bishop Yvette Flunder, Rev. Candy Holmes and Rev. Cedric Harmon to name just a few.
Tonight’s "Go Vote" event is a town hall meeting hosted by Dr. Juilianne Malveaux, who is a noted activist, civil rights leaders and the 15th president of Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, NC. Despite the efforts of some African-American clergy to discourage voter participation, NoWedge is countering that messaging urging for a policy agenda that positively effects the African-American community in areas such as education, incarceration and the LGBT community. In addition, NoWedge2012 has made efforts to share their stories in their communities and faith organizations to empower Black voters and create conversations about issues affecting their communities across the nation.
