The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced today the nominees for the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Among the nominees are many LGBT-inclusive shows featuring many prominent out characters and personalities in daytime television. The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be held on June 22nd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Here TV's A World Of Dreams: Voices from the OUT100 picked up a nomination in Outstanding Special Class Special. The feature-length documentary tells the personal stories of many of the list's 2013 honorees - including Edie Windsor, Laverne Cox, Dustin Lance Black, Lea Dalaria, and more- premiered to great acclaim. In addition to these stories, OUT editors provide commentary and context for many of the honorees in the film. The full documentary is available on Here TV's Premium YouTube channel.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show is nominated in an impressive nine different categories, including the high honor of Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment. CBS show The Talk, which features out co-host Sara Gilbert, is also nominated for Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment, as well as Outstanding Talk Show Host. The Chew, a cooking show on ABC co-hosted by out TV personality Clinton Kelly, is nominated in two categories, including Outstanding Talk Show/Informative. ABC's Good Morning America is nominated for Outstanding Morning Program and features out anchor Robin Roberts. The nomination also includes her former colleague, out anchor Sam Champion who recently departed the series to take over as Managing Editor at The Weather Channel.
The NBC daily drama Days of Our Lives was nominated in 14 categories, including Outstanding Drama Series. Chandler Massey is nominated for his 2013 portrayal of out character Will Horton, for which he won Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in both 2012 and 2013. Will is not played on the series by Guy Wilson. Web-based Venice: The Series, which stars a lesbian couple portrayed by Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia, is nominated for Outstanding New Approaches/Drama. General Hospital picked up 16 nominations total.
