The Case Against 8, a feature length documentary following the legal battle to overturn California's Proposition 8, has released a full trailer. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this January to great acclaim and directors Ben Cotner and Ryan White received the Sundance Film Festival Best Directing Award. The Case Against 8 went on to screen at the Austin festival SXSW where it won the 2014 Audience Award. The film will run in theaters in New York and Los Angeles starting June 6 before rolling out to additional cities on June 13, all leading up to a TV premiere on HBO on June 23.

The Case Against 8 was shot over five years leading up to the overturn of Prop 8 last year, the cameras were given access to the behind the scenes world of legal team Ted Olson and David Boies and Prop 8 plaintiffs Sandy Stier, Kris Perry, Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo. On June 26, 2013 the Supreme Court denied standing for the proponents of Proposition 8, which reverted the decision to the ninth circuit court, which overturned Proposition 8 on June 26. The ninth circuit court struck down Proposition 8 on June 28 and loving, committed couples are now allowed to be married in the state of California.
