WWE veteran Pat Patterson came out as gay in the finale of the WWE network reality series Legends' House. The 73-year-old opened up to his fellow wrestling veterans about his relationship with his partner of 40 years who passed away, as well as living in the closet for decades. Patterson's cast mates supported him, saying "We love you, Pat. We've always loved you." Later that night the group celebrated the end of the series with a karaoke party where Patterson belted a stunning rendition of the Frank Sinatra classic "My Way."
Patterson, inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996, was the first-ever Intercontinental Champion and went on to help create the Royal Rumble event. He currently serves as a WWE executive.
WWE Superstar Darren Young spoke out about being gay last summer when a cameramen from TMZ asked him if he thought a gay wrestler could be successful. His response? "Absolutely. Look at me. I’m a WWE Superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now I’m gay and I’m happy. Very happy." Young went on to serve as a Spirit Day ambassador to send a message of support for LGBT youth and encourage others to do the same and he also became the first out playable character in a sports game with the release of WWE 2K14 from game publisher 2K. Young joined GLAAD at L.A. Pride on June 8, he will again be teaming with GLAAD at the 44th Annual LGBT Pride March in New York City on June 29.
