Last Thursday, the body of Yaz'min Shancez, affectionately nicknamed "Miss T," a 31-year-old transgender woman, was found behind a garbage bin at a rental facility in Ft. Myers, Florida, burned. Local police are reluctant to label this a hate crime and are investigating the incident as a homicide.
This past Sunday, an estimated 200 people arrived at the vigil in Centennial Park in Ft. Myers to honor Shancez's memory. Tasha Furlow, Shancez's aunt stated, according to The Huffington Post, "It means so much to me because I never knew so many people could love a person like that."
Shancez's friends and family are crowdsourcing her funeral with 10 days to go. To contribute, click here.
