The 2014 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival kicks off July 10 and tickets are on sale now through Outfest's website, by phone or in person at the Box Office at the Directors Guild of America.

To Be Takei is a look at the remarkable life and career of TV icon and LGBT advocate George Takei, who was honored with GLAAD's Vito Russo Award at the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City. The actor, advocate, social media star and author has remained one of the most outspoken LGBT voices in Hollywood. Since coming out in 2005, he has spoken out on issues including marriage equality, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), so-called "ex-gay therapy" and more. He has worked closely with GLAAD to bring equality to the Boy Scouts and supported GLAAD's Spirit Day campaign to show support for LGBT youth and end anti-LGBT bullying.
The full 2014 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival schedule is up online now, but check out some highlights below.
Outfest kicks off July 10 with the Opening Night Gala celebration and screening of Life Partners starring Leighton Meester and Gillian Jacobs as lesbian Sasha and her straight best friend. The festival wraps up July 20 with a screening of the Liv Tyler and Matt Bomer-starring sci-fi spoof Space Station 76.
My Prairie Home, which premiered at Sundance in January, is Outfest's Documentary Centerpiece and follows trans singer-songwriter Rae Spoon. 52 Tuesdays, another Sundance premiere, tells the story of 16-year-old Jamie and her relationship with her mother James over a year as James begins his transition. Lady Valor: The Kristin Beck Story looks at the journey of the former Navy SEAL following her coming out as trans during an interview on Anderson Cooper 360. The Trans Shorts series will screen twice during Outfest and includes nine short films specifically focused on trans lives and stories.
Documentary Queens & Cowboys: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo looks at the stories of members of the International Gay Rodeo Association over the course of a year as filmmaker Matt Livadary followed the circuit. Back on Board: Greg Louganis offers an intimate view into the life of one of the most successful US divers in history, Greg Louganis, as he shares the struggles he's faced as an openly gay and HIV positive athlete.
Lilting starring Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) and Hong Kong film legend Pei Pei Cheng is the Outfest International Centerpiece and follows the journey to understanding that Richard (Whishaw) takes with the Chinese Cambodian mother (Cheng) of his deceased partner Kai. The U.S. Dramatic Centerpiece film Appropriate Behavior follows Shirin as she throws herself into the Brooklyn dating scene after a bad breakup in hopes of finding the man or woman for her, during this time she confronts many of her issues including hiding her bisexuality from her Iranian parents.
Check out the special event "Inside Looking" which will feature a behind the scenes look at the show and a sneak peek of season two with the cast and crew of HBO's hit Looking as well as executive producer Andrew Haigh. The Outfest UCLA Legacy Project, dedicated to saving and protecting LGBT moving images, will include a screening of Longtime Companion to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary. The cast and crew will be on hand to reflect upon the importance of the groundbreaking film about a group of gay male friends in early 80's New York dealing with the harsh realities of the early days of the AIDS epidemic.
