1. Tammy, starring Melissa McCarthy, opens in theaters July 2nd and co-stars Kathy Bates and Sandra Oh as a lesbian couple who throw a barbeque with 150 of their closest (and mostly female) friends. EW reports that one scene will see Bates' character throws a tiki torch javelin-style into a jet ski, so needless to say, the film and it's lesbian characters sound intriguing. 2. SCISSR is a new web series that follows the experiences of a fictional group of lesbians living in New York City. The pilot for the show dropped back in April and has had over 50,000 hits on YouTube. It costars transgender actress Jamie Clayton (in a non-trans role) as well as three other out actresses. 3. Openly gay R&B/Pop musician Matt Palmer released his EP Stranger Than Fiction on the 24th. The 7-song EP is available for digital download on iTunes and CD Baby. Check out the music video for the single "Teardrops" below!
4. Openly bisexual musician and star of PortlandiaCarrie Brownstein has joined the cast of Amazon's new series Transparent as Syd, the best friend of Gaby Hoffman's character Ali. The show was created and directed by Jill Soloway and revolves around a Los Angeles family and their lives after their father (Jeffrey Tambor) comes out as transgender. The full pilot is available to watch on Amazon Instant Video.
5. HBO's season 2 of Looking
will consist of 10 episodes—an upgrade from the 8 episodes in season 1. The series is a comedy-drama that follows the lives of a group of young gay men living in San Francisco. The second season is set to air in 2015.
6. The new web series Modern Day Black Gay about a young writer in New York City who is exploring what it means to be black and gay today needs your help to finish production! Writer and Director Donja R. Love wrote the series in order to challenge stereotypes of gay men of color in the media.
