U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn II ruled today that Kentucky's constitutional amendment that restricts the definition of marriage to a woman and a man is unconstitutional. This is his second ruling this year in favor of marriage equality. Previously, he ruled that Kentucky must recognize marriages perfromed outside of the state. The ruling was stayed, meaning there will be no marriages for same-sex couples in Kentucky at this time. The ruling will join the other rulings in the 6th circuit. Today's ruling is one step closer to achieving marriage equality in Kentucky and all of the 50 states.
