The trailer for the highly anticipated British film Pridewas released today. The film tells the true story of a group of LGBT advocates who joined forces with a small mining community in Wales in 1984 to protest coal mine closures. Directed by Matthew Warchus, the film stars Dominic West, Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott and Imelda Stauton and will be released in the UK September 12.  Watch the trailer below.

Pride focuses on the story of the 1984 UK National Union of Mineworkers strike in protest of coal mine closures around the country. The Thatcher government responded to the strike with measures that were often brutal and illegal and in response, so a group of LGBT advocates (who certainly didn't like Thatcher either) organized in support of the miners, eventually forming the group Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM). The film follows the group who drives down to a mining community in South Wales to make a donation despite the mining community being embarrassed to take money from them.

In an article for The Guardian, Warchus wrote, "Pride engages the audience not in party politics or preachy agendas, but in much bigger concepts of generosity and compassion… The film humorously depicts the developing relationship between apparent opposites who somehow overcome the obstacles between them."

Pride does not yet have a set release date in the US but will be released in the UK September 12.
