GLAAD would like to congratulate our National Spokesperson Omar Sharif Jr.on his inclusion in People's "Hottest Bachelors" issue! Omar is listed as one of seven "Hot Grandsons," as the grandson of Egyptian actor Omar Sharif, known for his roles in Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago, and Funny Girl

People, which was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award earlier this year, has made a strong move by including Omar alongside other out bachelors such as Sam Smith.

You can vote for Omar in the next generation section of People's online poll!

Omar Sharif Jr., himself an Egyptian-Canadian actor, joined the GLAAD staff in 2013. He wrote a letter that was published in The Advocate in 2012, in which he came out as gay and half-Jewish, both dangerous identities to hold in Egypt. After writing the letter he faced a barrage of condemnation, criticism, and threats of violence from the Arab world. He then took the role of spokesperson at GLAAD in order to advocate for those who are still facing oppression both nationally and internationally, and to help promote a greater understanding and acceptance for the LGBT community.

Omar told People, "My grandfather told me, 'I gave you my looks and my name. Everything else you must earn. I admire him for that." He also said his ideal partner would be "a guy with strong family values, self-confidence and the ability to see the world for what it could be."

Check out all of the "Hot Grandsons" below and be sure to pick up a copy of People Magazine, which is on newsstands nationwide now!
