Bravo's first original scripted series Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce, set to premiere later this year, will feature a guest appearance by Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox. Cox will play Adele Northrop, a "Pulitzer Prize-winning war journalist and LGBT advocate who presents an award at a marriage equality gala." The series follows recently divorced self-help writer Abby (Lisa Edelstein, House) as she navigates being a newly single woman in her early 40s.

Cox was honored with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 25th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. Her portrayal of incarcerated trans woman Sophia Burset on the hit Netflix original series Orange is the New Black has won her critical acclaim. She is the first trans woman of color to have a leading role on a mainstream scripted show and consistently uses her platform as a public figure to create dialogue, increase visibility and draw attention to critical issues facing the trans community.

Cox also serves as executive producer of the upcoming documentary Free CeCe about a young transgender woman who was brutally attacked in an act of anti-transgender violence and later incarcerated in a men's prison for defending herself. Cox will executive produce and host upcoming MTV and Logo special Trans Teens: The Documentary and is set to release her memoir next year.
