Producing team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are in the early stages of developing and producing a comedy series inspired by the experiences of out soccer star Robbie Rogers. The series is part of the team's overall deal at Universal TV.
Rogers played several seasons with Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew, winning the MLS Cup, and competed in the 2008 Olympics. Rogers came out in February 2013 and in May 2013 made history as the first out man to compete in a top North American professional sports league when he played in his first match for his current team, the LA Galaxy.
Zadan and Meron were honored with GLAAD's Vito Russo Award, presented annually to LGBT media professionals who make a significant difference promoting equality, at the 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York. They received 18 Emmy nominations last week for their various event and longform television projects.
