California representatives Linda Sanchez and Lucille Roybal-Allard wrote a joint opinion piece in the Huffington Post about the impact of the Proposition 8 and Defense of Marriage Act decisions have had on Latino families. They point out in the article that 56% of the country still does not have marriage equality, including Latino lesbian and gay couples in states like Nevada and Arizona.

"When we can't come together to celebrate a wedding for all of our friends, gay or straight, and when we know they don't have the same opportunities we take for granted, it affects us all. Somos familia, we are family -- and that means we fight for and love each other unconditionally."

Representative Linda Sanchez convened a field hearing last year to discuss a report about the impact of discrimination on LGBT workers of color and has spoken out against the bullying of LGBT youth.
