GLAAD is getting ready for the Gay Games in Cleveland. If you haven't checked out the excitement of as many as 10,000 athletes from more than 60 countries participating in 35 sporting events, then you should. GLAAD's very own Monica Trasandes, of the Spanish Language Media team, is in the South American country of Chile where she is working with Fundación Toda Mejora, which works to promote education to stop bullying and youth LGBT suicide. Since her arrival, she has appeared on multiple Chilean television interviews bringing expert perspective to a society ravaged by LGBT youth suicide and bullying. Read more.
GLAAD broke the news that Yvette Cantu Schneider, one of the leaders of both the anti-LGBT and "ex-gay" movements, was renouncing her involvement with both movements, and calling for a ban on "ex-gay therapy" for minors. Yvette worked with GLAAD's Jeremy Hooper, who asked her tough questions about her time with the Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, and California's Prop 8 campaign. Rolling Stone magazine ran a feature story about CeCe McDonald, a trans woman of color whose story gained national attention after she was arrested and charged for the death of her own attacker. GLAAD's Senior Media Strategist Tiq Milan moderated a panel on fair and accurate reporting of violence against transgender women of color at this year's National Association of Black Journalist Conference in Boston. The 39th annual event hosts hundreds of African-American journalists from all across the country who come together to celebrate the acheivements in Black journalism and discuss pressing issues facing the community. GLAAD was also a proud sponsor of this year's LGBT reception in partnership with Lambda Legal.
Million Dollar Listing Miami, the newest spinoff of the Bravo series Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, is winding down its first season and out cast member Chris Leavitt spoke with GLAAD about what he hopes viewers take away from his story. Read more.
