GLAAD board member and Chief Information Officer at Nike, Anthony Watson, was recently named the receipient of the 2014 ADVOCATE award. ADCOLOR is an "organization whose mission is to celebrate and champion diversity in the advertising, marketing, media, PR and entertainment industries." GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis will present the award during the ADCOLOR Awards on September 20 in Los Angeles.
Watson is being honored by the organization because of his inclusive work at Nike. Earlier this year he became the only openly gay Chief Information Officer for a Fortune 100 company and was named to the World Power List. Watson has been outspoken about global LGBT equality and has been a support of organizations in the UK and U.S., noting last year in a guest post on Pink News UK: "I think it’s so very important that we all give, both with our time and with our money, to help the remarkable work so many of these organizations do to dismantle oppression and build support for full equality.
Congratulations to Anthony on his ADCOLOR honor and all of his accomplishments!
Additionally, ADCOLOR named Robert Camerelli, who participated in GLAAD's Spirit Day with Publicis Groupe, as a Change Agent. ADCOLOR will select one Change Agent from three nominees on September 20th in Los Angeles. We wish him and the other nominees the best of luck.
Three of the advertisements up for this year's AD OF THE YEAR AWARD are LGBT-inclusve including Honeymaid's “This Is Wholesome”, General Mills' #LuckytoBe Campaign and Coca-Cola's “America is Beautiful.”
