Yesterday, we shared that GLAAD and several other LGBT organizations issued an open letter in support of Michael Brown's family, and decrying the police violence faced by people of color across our country. A section of that statement describes why it is important for LGBT people and organizations to speak out on issues of injustice:

The lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community cannot be silent at this moment, because LGBT people come from all races, creeds, faiths and backgrounds, and because all movements of equality are deeply connected. We are all part of the fabric of this nation and the promise of liberty and justice for all is yet to be fulfilled.

GLAAD calls its followers to continue to stand in support of Michael and against violence and victimization by those in authority. We've identified a few ways you can do that.

To learn more, and to get an in-depth discussion from a few of the best Black LGBT commentators, listen to Politini tonight at 8pm ET. Danielle and Aisha Moodie-Mills will host guest Darnell Moore and Mychal Denzel Smith to discuss Michael's story, the night of his shooting, and the heavy response from law enforcement.

Sign the petition by Color of Change calling on federal and city officials to rigorously investigate, prosecute, and fire all officers involved in Michael's shooting and cover up. Your signature will be added to a letter sent to the US Department of Justice and local Ferguson law enforcement officials.

Gather in your own community for a National Moment of Silence at 7pm ET/4pm PT. In cities across the country, people will gather in solidarity to hold vigils and observe a moment of silence to honor victims of Police Brutality, including Michael. A Facebook page lists the gathering locations for 90 cities. Find one in your city (or create one today) and join your neighbors to vigil for an end to racial profiling and police brutality. If you attend, tweet with the hashtag #NMOS14 (started by @FeministaJones).

Whichever of these actions you choose to do (or suggest other ones in the comments below), continue speaking out in solidarity against profiling and brutality of all underserved populations.
