What to Watch Weekend 8/22-24: 'True Blood' series finale, MTV Video Music Awards

This weekend catch all new Doctor Who, Witches of East End, Please Like Me, Masters of Sex, The Last Ship, the MTV Video Music Awards and the series finale of True Blood.

What to Watch: Friday, August 22

10:30pm: Please Like Me, Pivot (30 mins) NEW

Geoffrey and Josh go on a surprise date together. Meanwhile, Dad and Mae have their first moment of panic over the baby and Tom asks Jenny to be his girlfriend.

What to Watch: Saturday, August 23

8:00pm: Doctor Who, BBC America (2 hrs) SEASON PREMIERE

Madame Vastra and Jenny return as the Doctor and Clara investigate a dinosaur on the loose in Victorian London and the slew of deadly spontaneous combustions that follow in its trail.

What to Watch: Sunday, August 24

9:00pm: The Last Ship, TNT (1 hr) SEASON FINALE

Chandler and his crew reach home and during his quest to locate his family he uncovers a secret about the new world.

9:00pm: 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, MTV (2 hrs) NEW

The 31st annual show takes place live from The Forum in Inglewood, CA. Out singer Sam Smith will perform and LGBT nominees include Smith, Sia and Angel Haze.

9:00pm: True Blood, HBO (1 hr) SERIES FINALE

Sookie debates her future with and without Bill as Eric and Pam struggle with their partnership with Mr. Gus. Elsewhere, Sam makes an important choice and Andy comes into an unexpected inheritance.

9:00pm: Witches of East End, Lifetime (1 hr) NEW

An old friend of the family comes to visit Joanna and Freddie. Meanwhile, Wendy runs into someone from her past at an art gala and Killian doubts whether his feelings for Eva are real or not.

10:00pm: Masters of Sex, Showtime (1 hr) NEW

Masters tries to keep his new clinic in business by borrowing against his house and offering free medical services. Meanwhile, Johnson is surprised when he cuts off their sexual relationship after he learned she was continuing romantic relationships with other men.

This morning and afternoon, check your local listings for information about EllenThe Talk (CBS), The Gossip Table (VH1) and The Chew (ABC). Soap operas Days of Our Lives on NBC and General Hospital on ABC (check local listings for time) both feature out characters.
