The Peruvian organization Plural Peru created an interesting campaign called #DejaElMiedoEnElCloset, which means leave your fear in the closet.
The initiative, started a few weeks ago, was created to make support for LGBT equality visible. Celebrities, government leaders and regular folks were asked to upload a photo of themselves holding a paper with the phrase #DejaElMiedoEnElCloset to support the cause.
"Our motivation was to say 'enough' to discrimination, to say what we think and feel without fear," said Antonio Capurro, a founding member of the organization and a leading advocate in Peru.
The colors yellow blue and red stand out on the logotype and are "representative of life, love and harmony… you need all these elements to be reflexive in your actions,” Capurro said.
The campaign has been supported by people from numerous countries, including Long Beach mayor Robert Garcia, the youngest Latino man and also the first openly gay person elected Mayor in California.
A civil unions bill was presented to Congress by congressman Carlos Bruce last September in Peru. According to one survey, by the company IPSOS (Peru) done last April 61% of Peruvians disapproved the civil union. Advocates expect the bill to be discussed soon.
