Voting is essential to our democratic process. It's particularly important for the LGBT community and the next few years are going to be critical. While marriage equality is quickly expanding, legal protections for transgender people, addressing LGBT youth homelessness, and even the right to vote are all issues we are facing. GLAAD wants to empower all eligible voters to exercise their rights at the ballot box.

Do you like the recent gains the LGBT community has enjoyed the last few years? Vote to keep that momentum going.

Are you frustrated that there are LGBT issues that still aren't resolved? Vote to elect officials who will address those issues.

Are you worried that the gains that we have achieved might be reversed? Vote to secure the gains we have made.

Do you want more LGBT representation in our government officials? Vote for those who will increase the representation of LGBT people, not just elected, but appointed.

The fall midterm election is November 4, and the deadline for voter registration in several states is coming up right about now. Check with our partner, Rock the Vote, about registration deadlines.

Also, use GLAAD's Rock the Vote widget to register yourself to vote. You should see it on the right side of most pages, including this newsroom post page.
