Logo TV announced the nominees for the "New Now Next Awards" this morning and fan voting is open now! Several LGBT artists, inclusive films and TV series picked up nominations. The "New Now Next Awards" will premiere on Logo on Sunday, December 7 and then air on MTV on Friday, December 12.
How to Get Away with Murder (ABC), Looking (HBO), and Transparent (Amazon) all picked up nods in Best New Television Series. Out actor Jonathan Groff is nominated in Best New Television Actor for his work on Looking, he is joined in the category by Pedro Pascal who played the bisexual Red Viper on HBO's Game of Thrones.
Out writer and director Justin Simien is nominated in Best New Screenwriter for his film Dear White People. The film itself, which includes a gay character as one of the principal four characters, scored a nomination in Best Motion Picture by a New Filmmaker. Out screenwriters Craig Johnson and Ira Sachs also picked up nominations in Best New Screenwriter for their films The Skeleton Twins and Love is Strange, respectively. All three of these films also received Gotham Independent Film Awards nominations today.
In music, out singers Sam Smith and Mary Lambert picked up nominations in Best New Musician. Music groups A Great Big World and Pentatonix, which both have out band members, are nominated in Best New Music Group. LGBT-inclusive Broadway show Mothers and Sons scored a nomination in Best New Broadway Production.
