Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.
1.) Elle Fanning, Naomi Watts and Susan Sarandon have all signed on for the new indie film Three Generations, set to start production next month in New York. Fanning will play Ray, a teen at the beginning of his transition, with Watts as his mother, Maggie, who is struggling with her only daughter now being her son. Sarandon plays Ray's grandmother Dolly, a music manager who shares a brownstone with her partner Frances, and the couple have a hard time understanding Ray's decision and why Maggie is afraid to move out of the house she grew up in. Gaby Dellal will direct a script by Nikole Beckwith.
2.) A live action adaptation of the Archie comics franchise is coming to TV!Riverdale, named after the fictional town where much of the franchise is set, will follow the Betty, Archie and Veronica love triangle and out comics character Kevin Keller will feature in a prominent role. Josie and the Pussycats will be among other Archie characters to make an appearance on the series.
3.) Out actor Jim Parsons will voice Buddy the elf in NBC's animated movie Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas. This retelling of the 2003 story will feature the voices of Gilbert Godfrey, Rachel MacFarlane and Mark Hamill among others and will air this December 16 at 8pm on NBC.
4.)Neil Patrick Harris will host his own 10 episode variety show on NBC. The show ,modeled after the UK variety show Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, will feature mini game shows, musical numbers and comedy sketches among other things.
5.)The horror franchise Scream has been given a series order on MTV! Bex Taylor-Klaus (Arrow) will play Audrey Jensen, "the bi-curious daughter of a Lutheran pastor" who wants to become a filmmaker. The 10-episode first season is set to premiere in October 2015.
6.)I'm From Driftwood, the traveling LGBT story collecting project, held it's first live storytelling event in New York City last week. Eight storytellers came together and shared stories that spanned decades and experiences ranging from joyful to embarrassing.
7.) Sean Hayes and his longtime partner Scott Icenogle have announced their engagement! After appearing on The Talk earlier this week wearing a gold band on his ring finger, Haye's rep confirmed that the two are engaged and have been for some time.
8.)The creative team behind Common Interest is seeking help to get their film from page to screen. The romantic comedy follows Kevin and his best friend Liz as she tries to get him back in the dating game after he is abandoned by his fiancée Jennifer at the altar. Kevin's world - and his new relationship with Fisher - is thrown into chaos when Jennifer returns to town and wants to rekindle their relationship. Check out their Indiegogo page for more information.
