The GLAAD Wrap: Jose Antonio Vargas to direct MTV documentary, 'Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine' NYC premiere and more

Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBT-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Romantic dramedy Beside Still Waters is out in select theaters now. The film follows Dave as he invites his childhood friends to reunite at his family's lake house to celebrate their glory days and mourn the sudden loss of his parents. The group includes gay character Tom played by Saturday Night Live actor Beck Bennett.  Find Beside Still Waters at a theater near you and check out the trailer below.

2) Documentary Matthew Shepard is a Friend of Mine will have its New York City premiere at DOC NYC next Thursday, November 20. The film will be presented by Matthew's parents, Judy and Dennis, and the film's director and close friend Michele Josue. Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine will hit theaters in the U.S. and Canada in February 2015, tickets are still available for the DOC NYC premiere.

3) Jose Antonio Vargas, a gay, undocumented Pulitzer prize-winning journalist who started the organization Define American to advocate for immigration reform, will direct a new documentary for MTV's "Look Different" campaign examining "what it means to be young and white in America." The untitled project is set to air on the network in 2015. Vargas revealed his status as an undocumented immigrant in an essay published in The New York Times Magazine in 2011 and his documentary Undocumented was released earlier this year.

4) Out playwright Terrence McNally's Broadway show It's Only A Play has extended its run through March, originally scheduled to close January 4. The show reunited Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and has garnered rave reviews, but Lane will not be able to continue with the extended run as he departs for another production. It's Only a Play follows panicked playwright Peter Austin (Broderick) on the opening night of his new play as he waits for the reviews with his best friend (Lane) and the show's cast.

5) This spring DC will halt production of all their regular comics for the two-month Convergence event which will have every DC universe colliding. DC will publish 40 different two-part miniseries featuring characters from every universe with the first issue out April 8. Out character Renee Montoya will return as the Question to help as Two-Face takes on another world's Harvey Dent.

6) Rom com Will You Take This Man? has launched a Kickstarter campaign for funding help to finance filming and marketing. Will You Take This Man? follows interracial Kansas couple Martin and Antione as they open up about their relationship, get engaged and start their path to the altar and all the happenings along the way.
