1) Following his role in the award-winning HBO original movie The Normal Heart, actor Matt Bomer may be taking the lead role in another film for the network; an upcoming biopic on gay actor Montgomery Clift. The story reportedly centers on Clift's relationship with actress Elizabeth Taylor after the pair made A Place in the Sun, with Love is Strange writers Ira Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias handling a rewrite on the script. The news follows Bomer picking up a People's Choice Award this week for Favorite Cable TV Actor for his role on White Collar.
2) Netflix has announced premiere dates for several of its upcoming original series. The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt– from 30 Rock creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock – includes a gay singer played by Tituss Burgess and will premiere on March 6. The Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda headlined Grace and Frankie follows two former enemies who become friends after their husbands reveal they are in love with each other and getting married, and will premiere two months later on May 8. Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston will play the husbands.
3) Also reportedly coming to Netflix is an 8-episode limited series based on the cult-hit film Wet Hot American Summer from creators David Wain and Michael Showalter, with most of the original movie returning. That includes Michael Ian Black and Bradley Cooper as two camp counselors having an affair who get married by the end. According to Deadline, production has just started, but no premiere date is set.
4) Discovery Life has announced a premiere date and new title for its upcoming docu-series following a group of transgender women living in Kansas City, Mo. New Girls on the Block will debut next week, on Thursday January 15. Executive producer Jay James told a Television Critic Association audience that "We’ve got amazing characters, we’ve got really compelling stories, and we’ve got a really interesting world that hasn’t been told on television. We’ve never really seen a group of transgender friends just sitting around in a coffee shop.”
