The Ira Sachs film Love is Strange is out on Blu Ray, DVD, and Digital HD today and the film's stars John Lithgow and Alfred Molina and writer/director Sachs have teamed with Tie The Knot for three special limited edition bow ties to help support marriage equality.
Love Is Strange stars Lithgow and Molina as Ben and George, newlyweds who have been together for decades. George loses his teaching job when word of their marriage reaches his boss and the couple are forced to live apart while they search for a new home they can actually afford. Their lives are further complicated by the tensions and dynamics of their new living arrangements.
The Sachs-Torres bow tie is inspired by the iconic West Village gay bar Julius and features interlocking "J"'s in light blue in pink, designed by Sachs and his husband Boris Torres. The John Lithgow is inspired by his character Ben's love of art and features a bold abstract print in a nod to Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning. The Alfred Molina bow tie is a pop art style print of musician Frederic Chopin, whose music scores the film. All three bow ties are available now, exclusively through The Tie Bar with proceeds benefitting marriage equality.
Love is Strange was recently nominated in Best Feature at the 30th Film Independent Spirit Awards which will air live on IFC Saturday, February 21. Both Lithgow and Molina are also nominated for their roles in Best Male Lead and Best Supporting Male, respectively. Out writer/director Sachs and co-writer Mauricio Zacharias are also nominated for Best Screenplay. Love is Strange is available now!
