Today, GLAAD announced the nominees for its 26thAnnual GLAAD Media Awards. Several nominees address the stories of LGBT people living with HIV.
In the entertainment categories, the Golden Globe nominated Pride, set in 1980s London, included two HIV-positive characters, white HBO's The Normal Heart examines the beginning of the AIDS crisis in New York City.
In journalism, guest host Jonathan Capehart discussed rising HIV infection rates in southern states during the "Change is Coming to the South" segment on Melissa Harris-Perry. Two nominees directly address the issue of PrEP, a pill taken once a day to prevent HIV infection: "Sex Without Fear" by Tim Murphy in New York magazine, and a series of 31 articles on Advocate.com entitled "31 Days of PrEP." Mark S. King's blog, My Fabulous Disease, is about his life living with HIV and is nominated in the Outstanding Blog category.

The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD's work to amplify stories from the LGBT community and issues that build support for equality.
