The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held tonight at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium and included wins for LGBT-inclusive series and films. The SAG Awards are the only show with winners selected solely by actors and their peers.
The cast of Netflix's Orange is the New Black took home the Actor in Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, while the cast of Downton Abbey won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Uzo Aduba picked up a win in Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren on Orange is the New Black. Mark Ruffalo won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie for his work as Ned Weeks in the HBO film The Normal Heart about the early days of the AIDS crisis in New York City and the young activists working to spur the medical and political establishment into action.
Trans actress and advocate Laverne Cox presented the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series to Viola Davis from How to Get Away with Murder. Cox shared her excitement about presenting for the first time at the SAG Awards on Instagram this week.
