Story shines light on abuse faced by transgender immigrant being held in male facility

The Huffington Post's Roque Planas did an excellent article on transgender immigrant Nicoll Hernández-Polanco, who is being held in an all-male detention center.  Planas writes: "Advocates say that since being detained, Hernández-Polanco has been assaulted by another detainee, that guards have groped her during routine pat-downs and referred to her using slurs like “it” and “woman with balls." The plight of many immigrants, a lot of them LGBT, often surprises those who are unaware of how the immigration system works. The story is on the front page of Latino Voices.
