Last night, the 57th Annual Grammy Awards was a big night for Sam Smith, which in turn was a big night for the LGBT community. Sam Smith became the first openly gay artist to win the Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Album. While accepting one of his four awards of the night, Smith used his speech to thank the man he loved for inspiring his album In the Lonely Hour. This acknowledgement was a big step toward acceptance and equality for the LGBT community. Smith's wins generated many supportive reactions from fellow nominees, LGBT advocates, and other popular names in music.
