Laverne Cox has been cast as transgender attorney Cameron Wirth in the new CBS legal procedural pilot Doubt. While Cox already made Hollywood history last year when she became the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy in an acting category, this character will be the first trans series regular character on broadcast TV played by a transgender actor if the series is picked up past the pilot order.
Doubt, from Grey's Anatomy executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, will center on a boutique law firm as one of their top attorneys gets involved romantically with a client who may be guilty of a vicious crime. Cox's character, Cameron, is a "fierce and funny but compassionate Ivy League-educated attorney whose own personal experiences with injustice make her fight harder for her clients."
Doubt was given a pilot order by CBS last month, we'll see if the series makes the final airing schedule later this year.
