On Tuesday, clergy and faith leaders from across the state will gather at the Texas Capitol to issue calls – rooted in faith and Texas values – for an end to discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. The gathering is an appeal to lawmakers to support inclusive policies that protect all children, end discrimination, and strengthen relationships.

Speakers will include Rev. Michael Diaz of Resurrection MCC in Houston, Rev. Eric Folkerth of Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas, Minister Leslie Jackson of United Church of Christ in Houston, and Rabbi Pamela Silk, Temple Emanu El in Houston.

The event coincides with Faith Advocacy Day, when Texans from across the state will meet with state legislators to share belief in, among other things, the Golden Rule, and how it informs their support for policies that protect gay and transgender Texans.

Anti-discrimination measures and marriage equality for LGBT people continue to be major “culture war” battles in Texas, including at the Legislature.

The event is co-sponsored by Equality Texas and Texas Freedom Network
