People from all walks of life in El Salvador are speaking out about the 400% increase in hate crimes against LGBTI people in the country in a moving video produced by the United Nations in El Salvador. Allies and LGBTI advocates stress that not only is the violence unacceptable but neither is the lack of justice for those who have been hurt, or lost their lives and the people that love them. In the video, a woman asks "would you love your children less if they told you they were gay?" A group of friends says and signs "we love, suffer and work just like everybody else." And finally, one woman standing in front of a monument challenges the viewers "we should construct a new culture in our society built on respect. We should begin now and not just stand there with our arms crossed."
